Covid-19 Update

Posted on April 24th, 2020

We are OPEN FOR BUSINESS.

We can supply customers large and small with our full range of trussed rafters and engineered timber floor joists. Our design service is also up and running.

However, the safety of our team members remains paramount and we are operating with smaller factory and office teams to ensure social distancing can be maintained. At present this is unlikely to impact delivery times and we will keep you informed if the situation changes. We will of course work with site personnel to ensure social contact is avoided during delivery.

We are unable to see visitors at our factory but we can take calls and we are monitoring emails so if you wish to contact us regarding future projects we will be pleased to hear from you on our usual number or via sales@holdentimber.co.uk

We would like to thank you for your ongoing support and look forward to working with you to help progress your projects under these exceptional circumstances.

We are moving!

Posted on August 25th, 2019

Our new factory is ready and we are moving in on 19 August!

We already have much of our new machinery in place – pictured ready to unload above – and we are excited about moving into our larger, purpose built factory next to the A14 at Claydon, near Ipswich.

Additional presses will provide the extra capacity needed to match increased demand, helping ensure customer orders are completed quickly to the highest standards. Larger offices will also enable us to recruit more members to our design and customer response team.

We will be contacting all our customers to let them know of the changes; from 19 August our new address is Paper Mill Business Park, Paper Mill Lane, Claydon, Ipswich IP6 0BE. Our telephone number and email address are unchanged.

We have moved!

Posted on August 20th, 2019

Our new factory marks a significant expansion in capacity, providing increased floor space for extra equipment and machines, along with more efficient production lines. We also have a much larger design office. Our extra capacity enables us to provide the highest levels of service to larger customers and we have room for further growth.

With the A14 no more than a minute away and the A12 and A140 close by, we have excellent excess to customers large and small across the Eastern counties.

Our production team is already enjoying working in a naturally light, airy environment and the design and sales teams finally have some elbow room.

The whole team is eager to tell our customers how we can help and to demonstrate our new production systems.

New factory nears completion

Posted on February 13th, 2019

Our new factory at Claydon, next to the A14, is nearing completion.

The entire building is now weather proof, the offices boast an attractive brick skin and much of the block paving around the building is complete, providing ample parking and turning space.

Interior fitting out and electrical work is underway and we are on track for completion in the Spring.

Our new building will enable us to increase capacity in a modern factory with excellent transport links to the A14, A140, A12 and major routes into East and West Suffolk.

Trusses for new truss factory

Posted on November 27th, 2018

The office has a steel load bearing frame with a secondary timber frame to support the sheathing board, insulation and interior plasterboard. Diminishing valley frames were needed for the valleys between the main roof and the trussed entrance portal. The roof cladding on the valleys has been specially profiled to accept 120mm of insulation that is required on the entire roof.

The office has an attractive brick skin. As this part of the building covers almost the whole length of the factory facing the site entrance, the design ensures an attractive kerbside view.

With work on target to finish fitting out early in the new year, we are looking forward to moving. Our new building will enable us to increase capacity in a modern factory with excellent transport links to the A14, A140, A12 and major routes into East and West Suffolk.

Ready for the rain

Posted on October 15th, 2018

The roof is on and with rapid progress on the blockwork and cladding, the main section of our new factory will soon be weatherproof. As soon as the frame for the front office is finished the remaining area can be fully enclosed.

Work on a small electricity substation for the site has also been completed, ensuring we will have adequate power when we add new machinery to our production line.

A sophisticated drainage scheme is nearing completion, with run-off water filtered via a large tank to ensure no impurities enter the groundwater or local water courses. An attenuation pond has also been dug to cope with the heaviest downpours.

New factory takes shape

Posted on August 31st, 2018

The steel framework for our new factory is progressing quickly. Supplied by local company Roy Allen Engineering Ltd of Diss, the frame is designed to provide a span of 20 metres, enabling us to optimise the layout of machinery in the factory for efficient truss and joist fabrication.

The frame is bolted to the 300 mm thick reinforced concrete base and the placement of all sections has gone to plan.

A sophisticated drainage scheme is also underway, with run-off water filtered via a large tank to ensure no impurities enter the groundwater or local water courses. An attenuation pond is also being created to cope with the heaviest downpours.

When complete, the new building will enable us to increase capacity in a modern factory with excellent transport links to the A14, A140, A12 and major routes into East and West Suffolk.

Factory floor is a mega pour

Posted on June 22nd, 2018

Work on our new factory beside the A14 at Claydon is continuing on schedule.

A matrix of steel mesh has been formed above the piles to reinforce a 300 mm thick concrete floor slab.

The slab has been created in three stages, each requiring a continuous pour of 190 m3of RC35 pump mix. This volume of concrete needed approximately 30 truck loads per day, delivered accurately to each area of the slab by a boomed concrete pump. As the concrete was poured it was vibrated and levelled before being given a polished power float finish around four hours later.

Concrete was supplied and laid by Eastern Counties Concrete from the company’s Stowmarket plant.

When fully cured the slab will support the steel frame for our new factory.

The new building will enable us to increase capacity in a modern factory with excellent transport links to the A14, A140, A12 and major routes into East and West Suffolk.

New factory construction underway

Posted on April 11th, 2018

Work has begun on our new factory beside the A14 at Claydon.

Following detailed soil sampling and initial groundwork, pile driving is underway to establish foundations for the 300mm thick reinforced concrete slab that will form the base of the new building.

Pile driving specialists Van Elle are using the Continuous Flight Auger (CFA) technique which is one of the quietest piling solutions available and is virtually vibration free, making it ideal for working in close proximity to existing buildings, in residential or in environmentally sensitive areas. The piles can also be installed without the need for casing, bentonite or polymers in a range of soil types.

CFA Piles are produced by drilling into the ground with a hollow stemmed auger to the required depth. Soil travels up the flights while concrete is pumped into the pile. Steel reinforcement can then be inserted into the concrete pile to the required depth.

The new building will enable us to increase capacity in a modern factory with excellent transport links to the A14, A140, A12 and major routes into East and West Suffolk.
